Welcome to the Rift Gallery website.
Our gallery represents regional and Japanese artists, and our facility hosts annual workshops in stonecarving, as well as occasional workshops in other art-related subjects with world class instructors.
Named for the dramatic Rio Grande rift valley, Rift Gallery is located in Rinconada, New Mexico.
We are on the main road joining Santa Fe and Taos, adjacent to Southwest Stoneworks and the stone shop/studio, and are open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 to 5.

Gallery co-owner, Mark Saxe, is a stone sculptor, and speaking of his art says, "My work expresses my love, commitment, and relationship with stone. The forms I create are the result of experience, contemplation, intuition, and chance. The methods and techniques I use reflect the forces in nature." Mark is also represented in Santa Fe by LewAllen Contemporary in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Betsy Williams is Mark's partner. She is a full-time ceramist and the gallery director.

Kazutaka Uchida, guest artist at our annual stonecarving workshops, brings his exquisite Japanese aesthetic and 40 years of carving experience to bear as he unlocks the inner beauty of the stone. He is also represented in Santa Fe by LewAllen Contemporary.

New Mexico artist, Kari Rives, works in clay with varying degrees of abstraction. Tom Collins of the Albuquerque Journal describes her animal miniatures and wall-hung pieces as "fast, loose and amazingly affecting evocations...."

Judy Nelson-Moore works in paper clay, making abstract and figurative sculpture. Of her work she writes, "I work in clay because it allows me to express something deeper than spoken words and rational thought. I express the experience of encountering the natural world as well as the inner psychology of life."

Michelle Goodman is a mixed media artist whose primary interest is in drawing. Her investigations into the nature of drawing include collage, ink, pencil and woven wire constructions. She has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico for 27 years.

Erica Lohan's intricate paintings with graphite details of natural phenomena reveal her interest in the pattern, variety, and intricacy of the organic natural world. Says Lohan, "I am working to define and display the fluidity of life using patterns derived from leaves, blossom and seed pods."

Artist Ebby Malmgren is a print maker, potter and writer who divides her time between Annapolis and Taos. Her abstract work mingles oceans and beaches, bays, rivers, creeks, marshland and Eastern woods with mid-continent prairies and the mountains, high mesas, deserts, pueblos, clouds, chamisa and sage of the West.

Rift Gallery is proud to represent these artists. Come by and see the gallery in person. There's always free parking and a friendly face, and we're conveniently located between Santa Fe and Taos.
