MARK SAXE
Mark Saxe has been a sculptor working mainly with stone for 34 years. He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts and as a young man served in the army in Vietnam. Upon his release from the army, he completed art school on the GI Bill before becoming a stonemason's apprentice in 1975. He has lived and worked in New Mexico for 30 years.
Saxe's sculptural forms reflect his concern with the universal forces that bind us together and keep us apart. He draws upon his years of experience as a quarrier, fabricator, letterer, and carver to give his work a spontaneous and fluid quality only achievable by one who has developed a long respectful relationship with his medium. In numerous private collections, his work is influenced by Noguchi, Chillida, and William Edmondson.
